You might think Disney is just about movies and cartoons, right? Well, the world-famous company is now making a massive change in the way it runs its entertainment business, and it could change everything we know about Disney. Fans of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and even Fortnite, listen closely — things are about to get interesting.
Disney has decided to bring all its streaming services, films, television, and even games under one roof. This means instead of separate teams working independently, there will now be a single leadership team overseeing everything. Leading this big move is Dana Walden, who has been appointed as the President and Chief Creative Officer. She will report directly to the new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, starting March 18.
So what does this really mean for Disney fans and viewers in India? Basically, all your favourite shows, movies, and streaming content will be more connected than ever, and Disney wants to make sure the audience gets a smooth experience no matter where they watch — be it Disney+ Hotstar, Hulu, or TV channels.
The change is not just about names and positions. Alan Bergman, who was already handling Disney Studios, will continue to manage film production, marketing, and distribution. But now, he will also share responsibility for Disney’s streaming platforms along with Walden. This shows how seriously Disney is taking digital streaming in the current entertainment world.
Speaking of streaming, Disney has also appointed Joe Earley and Adam Smith as co-presidents of Direct-to-Consumer (DTC). Their main job is to manage Disney+ and Hulu, making sure the platforms run smoothly, earn money, and bring better content to viewers. Joe Earley will also handle the content strategy, while Adam Smith will continue to focus on product and technology for Disney Entertainment and ESPN.
Television is not left behind. Disney has created a new position called Chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, and Debra O’Connell is stepping into this role. She will now oversee popular channels like ABC Entertainment, Disney Branded Television, Hulu Originals, National Geographic content, and creative work for 20th Television and 20th Television Animation. She will also keep an eye on ABC News and ABC-owned stations.
Disney is not stopping at movies and TV; they are now also focusing heavily on games and interactive content. Sean Shoptaw, who is EVP of Games and Digital Entertainment, along with his team, will now report to Dana Walden. This includes managing Disney’s games business and its collaboration with Epic Games for a connected Disney universe inside Fortnite. Yes, your Fortnite game may soon feel more “Disney” than ever!
Even marketing has a new focus. Asad Ayaz, Disney’s Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, will now report to both the CEO and Dana Walden. He will continue leading brand campaigns and marketing across all parts of Disney, making sure the company stays strong in people’s minds — whether in India or anywhere else.
Dana Walden herself says the new structure is all about how people watch and enjoy Disney content today. “As fans engage with Disney across more formats and platforms than ever before, we are bringing together the full power of our creative businesses to build an even more connected experience,” she said.
What’s clear is that Disney is betting big on streaming, digital experiences, and interactive media, alongside traditional movies and TV shows. The new leadership team is trying to make sure Disney stays relevant in a world where viewers want everything on-demand, online, and connected.
With these changes, Disney is not just reshaping its business; it is reshaping how we, the audience, experience entertainment. The company is showing that even a giant like Disney cannot just rely on old ways — they have to innovate, connect, and grow with the times. And for fans in India, this could mean more exciting shows, smoother streaming, and maybe even some surprises in the gaming world.
